Wired to Learn:
Motor Memory & Attention in Action
Page Narration
You know the voice.
Now get to know the brain behind it.
Whether you’re a classically trained voice teacher or a self-taught vocal coach, you’ve probably heard the term “motor learning” tossed around—but few educators actually understand what it means, or how to apply it.

Knowing a little bit more can bring more confidence and joy to your teaching and coaching!
“I truly can’t believe how simple (and yet how gosh dang EFFECTIVE) Meredith’s approach is in this course. A true streamline for what can seem like overly mechanical work.”
Maddie Tarbox
Evidence-based voice specialist and creator of Voice Function 101
This engaging, practical 1-hour workshop will transform how you teach singing by giving you a working knowledge of two powerful cognitive tools: motor memory and selective attention.
These two processes are key to determining what your singers retain, how quickly they progress, and how effectively they embody new techniques.
You'll walk away with:
-
A clear, working understanding of motor memory and how it applies to voice
-
Tools for helping singers build lasting habits with less effort and confusion
-
More confidence in your coaching and teaching
-
The ability to direct student attention for better, faster results
-
A fresh framework for what helps your students grow
-
Simple, powerful tools you can use immediately in your studio

Every time I have the pleasure of taking a class with Meredith, my teaching is immediately more effective. Like, literally, the very next lesson. ...the way she communicates how to work with the client's brain and nervous system never fails to change the way I teach, always for the better.

This Workshop Is:
Accessible – No neuroscience background needed

Engaging – Interactive sessions, real-world examples, and fun delivery

Actionable – You’ll leave with new teaching tools, not just theory

Evidence-Based – Rooted in the science of how people learn
This is science-backed, evidence-based learning. And it works in real life.
You've been to conferences and online seminars and been presented with fancy, scientific information about voices. You left thinking, "yeah...but now what"?
This isn't that. Motor learning happens in the brain, and when you know a little about brains, you can apply the elements of how they learn to speed up the process of motor learning. Application is key.
Most of us were never exposed to the idea of motor learning.
Even though motor learning is the underpinning of all musical expressions – including singing – very few of us learned what it is, how it works with singing, and how to make the most of it in improving skills.
We're often using techniques that sometimes work, and sometimes don't.
Knowing why something works makes it more reliable. It also allows you to be a teaching artist, meeting each singer where they are. This workshop covers two tendencies of all brains, and gets you started working with those tendencies.
The interesting thing is that
leaning into science empowers art.
The art of teaching. The art of music. The art of singing.
Knowing how brains work means that you can do less and get a faster, more effective return. It means that the motor learning integrates faster, and that leaves you free to express yourself musically and in the moment.
This workshop is for...
-
College-trained voice teachers looking to learn more about neuroscience-based instruction
-
Self-trained vocal coaches who want to teach with more clarity and confidence
-
Any singing educator who wants their students to learn faster, better, and with more joy

-
Certified NeuroVocal coaches who are fulfilling their continuing education requirements for 2026.

For NeuroVocal Method Coaches

If you are a certified NeuroVocal Method coach, this workshop can be used toward your 2026 certification maintenance requirements.

To maintain your certification, coaches are required to complete two short continuing education workshops this year.

This class is designed to:
-
reinforce core NeuroVocal principles
-
deepen your understanding of coaching vs. teaching
-
and support more consistent application in your sessions
Take this as a refresher or as a way to sharpen your skill sets.
