Dr. Dan's Voice Essentials:  3 Non-Negotiable Singing Rules

This short and well-articulated video is a good starting place for most pop singers (and many of their voice coaches). Dr. Dan is a really nice guy, and tends to talk to an audience of very interested singers. In our everyday studio work, these non-negotiables are on a bit of a sliding scale, with a ratio in accordance with the singer's interest and goals.

Video 2

Jaime Jackett

This Canadian-now-Australian singer/songwriter has a gorgeous instrument, is a wonderful singer, and is also an NVM teacher! This is from her debut album, Burn It Up.

Video 3

Derek Procell

This song is from his 2022 album Hello Mojo! that stayed on the charts for 22 weeks and is still charting. Since this singer/songwriter, harmonica player & pianist is my husband, I happen to know that he’s 71, never had voice training, did very little to care for his voice over the years, and made his (very successful) career singing jingles, doing voice overs, and writing music for TV and movies. (P.S. the high note this regulation baritone is singing is a G, and as you can hear, he’s still got some headroom!)
